Just as Miami's hotels, restaurants and retail stores are seeing a bump in business for one of the biggest sporting events of the year, law enforcement and social service agencies say they are also witnessing a spike in trafficking of underage sex workers.

The epidemic of underage sex trafficking isn't contained to Super Bowl weekend. An estimated 100,000 girls in the United States are under the control of a pimp or trafficker, according to Shared Hope International, a nonprofit that works to combat worldwide sex trafficking.

I was ready to say that it was due to Haiti before I read this article. I don't understand why it doesn't effect the other major sporting events as much as the Super Bowl.

"I don't want the idea to go away when Super Bowl ends. The reality is that it's more concentrated on Super Bowl weekend, but they're still out there come Monday morning."

My guess is all of the publicity and the hype that precedes the Super Bowl, plus a week of non stop parties leading up to the game is likely a big draw.

This is not only a super bowl problem, but a problem in general. With the economy being what it is and what it is not, teenage girls even adult women are selling their bodies.Sex is still a very lucrative business.

A lot of females (ESPECIALLY underage females) are beaten and degraded into psychological submission on a regular basis. The money goes exclusively to the pimp. The girls are arrested but almost none of them will dare testify against their vicious masters. Many will often repeat the pattern due to lack of intervention, fear, psychological issues, esteem issues, etc.

This oldest sin is committed in 21st century ,more often , under the growing gap of haves and have nots, particularly in the current economic melt-down. Any kind of festival environment accentuates urge to indulge in it

We can give out card 100 times and maybe five will call. But if they do, we've made a difference," he added.

Bravo. They keep giving out the cards even though 95 don't reply. Making a difference in five lives is wonderful.
